Introduction

The 4-year undergraduate program in Design is dedicated to individuals who wish to turn their artistic passion into a successful career. It is aimed at cultivating essential design skills and expertise which includes understanding of aesthetics, ability to express the design intent, drawing and sketching, and using computer-aided design.

At the same time, our program gives a possibility to pursue an individual major by choosing courses followed by one of the five different specializations:

●     Visual Communication Design

●     Environmental Design

●     Product Design

●     Fashion Design

●     Animation

 

A wide range of offered elective courses provides an opportunity to have a highly-personalized program. Students enhance their practical skills by doing a professional practice which gives them a taste of what a career in their chosen field will be like. The College provides internship positions in prestigious design institutions in Beijing, where students have the possibility to get an insight into designer’s job and to gain a hands-on experience from working in a Chinese environment.

Students interested in continuing their higher education are welcomed to join our 2-year graduate Master programs in Design or Engineering in Design.

 

 

Program objectives

The program is oriented towards preparing students for a successful future designer career. Therefore, the future graduate will have a solid technical background, advanced design skills and knowledge, and will boost creativity and problem-solving abilities.

 

 

Program Plan

During four years, students obtain well-rounded design knowledge and undergo an extensive training. In the meantime, they also choose a Major followed by relevant courses expanding their abilities in the particular field of design. The final year starts by doing a professional practice in design, and is followed by carrying out a graduation project according to the selected major.

Graduation certificate contains the information of chosen major, and provides a title of Bachelor of Arts.

 

 

Courses characteristics

Compulsory courses give a solid introduction to a designer’s profession (fine art, design studio, computer-aided design) while the elective courses cover a wide variety of subjects related to each of the five majors (theory and practice of architecture, urban planning, costume design, furniture design, film art, theatre and stage art, photography etc.)

In addition to professional courses, all taught in English, we offer Chinese language classes and lectures on various topics related to China. Our students not only learn the characteristics of Chinese architecture, but obtain a comprehensive understanding of contemporary China.

 

 

Learning environment

We want to create a thriving and supportive learning culture in an engaging environment where students feel connected to teachers, staff and other students. Students will have an opportunity not only to learn, but be part of a positive community where they can collaboratively feel valued and have a constant opportunity to grow. We organize many design related activities, during which international students cooperate with Chinese colleagues resulting in improved cross-cultural communication skills. We also provide students with opportunities to use the advanced laboratory equipment including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), 3D scanners, 3D printers, and laser engraving machine to boost creativity and technical skills.
